ESL Group Story Writing Class October 24, 2010
Last Halloween I decided to dress up as a vampire. I was too lazy to come up with a more original costume, so slapping on a set of false vampire teeth and draping a black curtain over my shoulders was an easy thing to do.
When I arrived at my friend Jim’s house where the party was, everybody had on great costumes. I was looking really sloppy. It was still early so I left to go to a costume store to buy something better. When I arrived there, the store looked closed, but the door was open, so I walked in.
When I went into the store, I saw someone lying down, and I saw a lot of blood. It startled me, but soon I got a hold of my emotions and decided to check things out. I approached the person, it was a young man. I poked him, but he didn't respond.
I was scared, my hands were trembling, but I had no time, and started to check costumes. I wanted to get out of that store as soon as possible. And then I saw a costume that impressed me. It was a big, orange, funny, pumpkin costume.
I was still trembling a bit and I felt as if I were in a fog, but the sight of the bright, orange, pumpkin costume made me push my fear aside. I had to step over the body that was lying in a pool of blood to get to the pumpkin costume. I told myself that it wasn't a real person, that it was a prop for Halloween.
As I was going out of the door, a creepy laugh chilled the blood in my veins. A voice said: "Where are you going, thief?" I froze there and I was afraid to turn. I sensed someone moving towards me and I felt a tap on my shoulder.
I wanted to run but suddenly I couldn't run anymore. My legs were not working. But then I thought "The blood is false, so maybe I can use it for my party."
Yes, the blood is fake! I was not scared anymore. I looked at the guy, smiled, and asked him: “Dude! Where can I get some of that blood?” Maybe I can make my pumpkin bloody.
Then the guy looked at me and yelled, "Hey are you a maniac? Can't you see I am dying here? Come on, shut up and call an ambulance. Hurry up." OMG, it was real. The guy was dying and he held my leg tightly. Some of the blood got on my leg. I decided to run away and jump into my big pumpkin costume and go to the party.
And suddenly I realized there was a policeman there. I prayed he would be a guy from the party wearing a policeman costume.
The policeman grabbed my arm as I was running by, and said: "Whoa, slow down, where are you going in such a hurry?" I was out of breath and panting so hard that I couldn't answer. He said, "Let's get you back into that store and find out why you're in such a rush." Then, still holding onto my arm, he escorted me back into the store.
I realized how this would look to the cop, and the trouble I was in. And I still couldn't stop thinking that I was missing Jim's party. He told me Helen would be there and I had waited a long time for a chance to meet her.
So I told the cop: "Hey, look behind you!” He turned and let go for a moment, so I ran away in my bloody pumpkin costume. He ran after me and started to shoot real bullets.
I thought that I'm really going to die this time. But why were all these things happening to me?
I can’t believe I dodged those bullets. I found an ally and ran into it. The cop was still running behind me. He could spot me because the costume was too bright.
While I was running in the street, my mobile phone started to ring. I stopped running because there was nothing else that I could do. I stopped and waited for the policeman to take me to jail., because I had no power in my legs to run anymore.
I decided to answer my phone . Maybe it was my mom, but i didn’t recognize the number. I wondered and answered: “Hi." And I waited. Then a man’s voice on the phone said, “Like I was saying, Hey you maniac! I am dying can’t you see?” OMG, it was Jimmy! Jimmy was playing a bad Halloween prank on me.
But, of course, I didn't realize that it was Jimmy on the phone, pretending to be the dead guy. So, I was so shocked by what he said, that I had a heart attack. I dropped dead right there and then, and now I'm in my grave pushing up daisies.
