Mariko is a girl who is a little different from other girls.
Her family died when she was born, and left her a lot of money.
She has never gone to school. She has spent her time studying on wikipedia instead and looking at the sky and stars.
She has spent the last 5 years building a rocket, and today she is ready to blast off into space.
5, 4, 3, 2, 1....
Her friend Elon Musk asks her: "Can your rocket be used multiple times?
She answers: "I thought it was impossible. Do you think it's possible?"
He says: "Yeah, have you ever seen the SpaceX web site? Our company posted a video about rocket REUSABILITY"
Mariko answers: "Oh I remember it, it's a very nice idea. We can make the rocket by more cheaply! I heard NASA was so surprised about the SpaceX's reusable rocket idea".
NASA recently announced that, due to the global economic recession, it is seeking to reduce costs. A reusable rocket would certainly contribute to a reduction in costs. It is hard to say at this stage how much money a reusable rocket would save.
According to Elon Musk's estimate, the cost saving would be more than 70%.
One of the reason NASA can not bring a human to Mars is the cost problem. When NASA's head heard about his plan, he asked Elon Musk: "How long do you think will it take humans to go Mars?", And he answered....
Elon replied by stating: "Many a man and woman would like to go Mars but right now I really can't say when that day will arrive. NASA's head says: "Really? But you are the CEO of SpaceX right? If you don't have any specific plan, the company can't get money from investors. I think you're hiding something. What are you think ing about bringing humans to Mars?".
"Well, we certainly have to make a plan, but then again, we are also humans and we can't just think about money. Aren't there other important things such as image and reputation?
"Oh don't worry about reputation, I have it already. We can make it a little differently, or crazy. We can make a machine that can cure all diseases or they will be young forever.
Mariko asks: "What are you talking about with the NASA' head??"
Elon Musk answers: "Oh I am sorry Mariko, we talk in English about Mars travel. I forgot you can't speak English…"
She replays: "It's ok… I need to study English before I go to Mars."
He says: "Yes you need it! If all the people can speak English they can communicate on Mars."
